C02 Laser Resurfacing Q&A with Dr. Kristen Aguirre

Posted on: April 2nd, 2019 by Jennifer Armstrong

Is CO2 Right For You?

Our Board-Certified Dermatologist Dr. Kristen Aguirre is here to answer all your questions about this exciting non-surgical option for long lasting results!

What is laser skin resurfacing?

Laser skin resurfacing is an effective and targeted way to use light based energy to tighten the skin and pores, improve fine and deep lines, and remove pigmentation and photo damage.

How does the CO2 laser work?

The CO2 laser uses highly focused light to vaporize microscopic columns of tissue, which causes immediate tightening, in addition to forcing the skin to lay down new collagen, elastin, and replace old damaged skin cells with newer, healthier cells. The building of new tissues occurs over the following 6-12 months.

What types of conditions does the CO2 laser treat?

The CO2 laser is excellent for treating fine and deep lines, enlarged pores, acne scars, surgical scars, pigmentation, sun damage, sagging skin, loose eyelid skin, and improves both tone and texture of the skin.

Who is a good candidate for CO2 laser treatment?

The CO2 laser is an excellent choice for individuals with lighter skin tones. People who are more pigmented may experience undesired changes in their baseline skin tone with this particular laser. We have other, specialized lasers and energy based technologies to correct scarring and aging in individuals with more pigment in their skin.

Who can administer CO2 laser treatment?

The CO2 laser is an extremely powerful and effective laser, which should only be administered by an experienced and well trained physician; preferably a Board Certified Dermatologist or Plastic Surgeon.

What can I expect during post-treatment recovery?

During the first 7 days you can expect some swelling, mild crusting, and redness. After 7 days, the skin of the face will be superficially healed and able to be covered with make-up if desired. There can be some redness that can persist for weeks to months as the tissues continue to lay down new healthy collagen and the lines and pores gradually diminish. There can be some mild itching as the skin heals. There is generally no pain after the procedure.

What kind of results can I anticipate?

The CO2 laser will provide profound improvement of tone, texture, fine and deep lines. Results will depend largely on the level of correction needed and overall health of the patient. Eating a healthy diet with adequate hydration and protein intake is important to ensure the best possible results. I also recommend strict sun protection during the healing process. We also have topical anti-aging products which can be used throughout the healing process to further optimize the results.

How often do I need to have the treatment?

Depending on the level of correction needed, the treatment can be repeated once a year. In general, the results of a CO2 laser will last 10+ years, as long as the patient is taking care of their skin. The treatment reverses the clock, but does not stop it.

How much does it cost?

Depending on the body site and the intensity of the treatment, the cost can vary between $2000-5000. We are currently running a 20% off special for the month of February. I encourage my patients to set up a no cost consult to see if this treatment is right for them and to take advantage of the special below!
