What is Laser Melasma Treatment?
Melasma is a common skin condition that surprises many of our patients who experience it. Characterized by brown or gray patches around the eyes, cheeks, and nose, patients who experience melasma find their hyperpigmentation starts around the time they have hormonal changes due to pregnancy, birth control, or menopause. Many patients who come in to see Dr. Armstrong for their melasma have tried over-the-counter products but just aren’t seeing the results they desire. Dr. Armstrong and her expert medical team are proud to offer melasma treatments using the LaseMD laser system to reduce hyperpigmentation at its source and restore each patient’s natural skin tone and texture. LaseMD works by using non-ablative lasers to treat hyperpigmentation at its source, breaking up your unwanted discoloration without having to undergo the lengthy downtime and recovery period of traditional laser systems.

What Can I Expect During my Laser Melasma Treatment?
Your laser melasma treatments will be performed by Dr. Jennifer Armstrong in our state-of-the-art facility. Before your treatment begins, a topical anesthetic may be applied to your treatment area, typically around the cheeks, eyes, and nose. This is just to ensure you remain as comfortable as possible throughout your treatment. Once numb, Dr. Armstrong will begin applying short, quick bursts of laser technology along the skin. Most patients find the feeling of the laser similar to the sensation of a rubber band being snapped against the skin. Most treatment sessions typically take between 10 and 20 minutes to complete.
What Can I Expect After my Laser Melasma Treatment?
When it comes to laser treatments, many of our patients get nervous about their required downtime and recovery period. LaseMD has the benefit of being a non-ablative laser, meaning it doesn’t take off any of your surface layers of skin and there’s no lengthy recovery period following treatment. While some patients report mild redness and sensitivity around their treated areas, most patients are able to return to their normal daily activities including work immediately following their treatment. The resutls of your LaseMD treatment should be visible within 10 days of treatment, with ultimate results continuing to improve over a 12 week period. Dr. Armstrong and her team may recommend a series of treatments to achieve your desired results.
