What is Rosacea?

Rosacea is a chronic skin condition that is characterized by the appearance of flushing and red, raised bumps on the skin. Typically affecting the nose, cheeks, and forehead, patients with rosacea are frustrated by this redness during their flare-ups. There are four different types of rosacea that Dr. Jennifer Armstrong’s medical team members are able to treat, ranging from mild cases of facial flushing and redness to more severe cases that cause intense thickening of the skin and acne-like breakouts on the face. If you find that you have outbreaks of excessive facial flushing or acne-like breakouts and are looking for a solution, we are happy to help. Our cutting-edge treatments and advanced technologies allow our patients to get the clear complexion they desire.

What Causes Rosacea?

Unfortunately, researchers and medical professionals are still unsure what causes the development of rosacea. That being said, many of our patients have found that certain events and environmental factors may contribute to their flare-ups. Rosacea symptoms typically worsen when patients eat spicy foods, eat items that contain cinnamaldehyde (like chocolate, cinnamon, and tomatoes), and drink hot beverages. The onset of rosacea has also been linked to the appearance of an intestinal bacteria called helicobacter pylori, which is usually linked to gastrointestinal issues like stomach ulcers. Patients who are typically affected by rosacea are between 30 and 50 years old and have light skin and fair features.

What Rosacea Treatments are Available?

Dr. Armstrong’s expert medical team members are proud to offer a wide range of rosacea treatments to men and women, including:

  • Laser Skin Resurfacing
    • Our laser skin resurfacing treatments treat your hyperpigmentation at its source, treating the symptoms of your rosacea and reducing redness over a period of time. We typically recommend a series of treatments coupled with additional rosacea therapy for ultimate results.
  • Medical-Grade Skincare Products
    • Medical-grade skincare products contain the highest-quality ingredients that can soothe and nourish your sensitive skin. We generally recommend using oil-free, water-based skincare products that are free of alcohol, exfoliating agents, and menthol. Not sure where to start? Dr. Armstrong’s medical team can develop a personalized skincare routine to help you get the clear skin you deserve.
